Patrick J. Morrison was diagnosed in 2006 with
cirrhosis of the liver caused by Hepatitus C. He is
on total disability through Social Security Disability
and carries Arizona AHCCCS. The health
insurance he uses through AHCCCS is Maricopa
Health Plan. Maricopa Health Plan denied paying
for the transplant twice, because it has to be done
out of state. See the letters.
Patrick must go to California for the surgery
because he is co-infected and Arizona does not
perform surgery on co-infected individuals. His
liver failure is not the result of alcohol or drug
abuse. He has no history of either. How he
became infected is unknown, but according to his
doctors, it was in his system undetected for 20
years. By the time he found out, it was too late for
his liver to heal and he must have a total transplant.
Patrick was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona.

Patrick is currently working with his doctors and the Director of USSF Transplant Program in San Francisco to
get authorization for the transplant. He is on the transplant list and hopefully will be going to San Francisco for
the evaluation in the near future. The cost for the evaluation is $5000.
The only thing that will or can save is life is a total liver transplant. His family and this website are dedicated to
help raise money for it. We are told the cost will be between $200,000. and $300,000. All proceeds from this
website and our other website at CafePress will be saved in a special fund for the transplant. Since the waiting
time for a liver transplant can be as long as two years, this site will remain dedicated to this fund until the surgery is
complete. We will update this page often.

saving surgery that he needs.

What conditions lead to liver transplants? Cirrhosis — irreversible damage to liver cells — is the most common reason for liver transplants in adults. It occurs when scar tissue replaces healthy cells and prevents normal liver function. Conditions that may cause cirrhosis and the need for a liver transplant include:
- Chronic hepatitis B and C
- Diseases of the bile ducts
- Alcoholic liver disease
- Autoimmune liver diseases
- Buildup of fat in the liver
Patrick has no history of drug or alcohol abuse.
